I've basically been thinking that myself. I lost my faith in humanity a long time ago just reading the news and studying history. If "faith in humanity" is taken to mean a belief humanity is not capable of endless cruelty and violence, which it generally seems to mean. There is a balance, though, as a whole. Our species is capable of wonderful things seemingly just as much as terrible things, well, that's debatable, but at least many wonderful things. A film is never really going to affect my opinion of humanity, even one based on a true story.

I was thinking this too. Although torture porn films, like the Saw franchise for example, do make me feel a little ill at times I can watch it much more easily than I could watch a real life medical program showing people with horrific injuries. And I agree that once you've seen your share of gore and snuff it causes you to re-evaluate your perspective on this stuff.
