I noticed some really old discussion threads on this but no real solid answers...

I'm just wondering if anybody ever got to the bottom of the full meaning behind that "No Brakes" artwork in the booklet for Americana. It's always puzzled me!

I know Veritas is Latin for truth...

The severed hand is making the sign of benediction, but why is it severed?

The central image is the Sacred Heart with the crown of thorns, but that is usually drawn with a single spear wound in one side, not being pierced with a blade...

What is the relevance of the eye at the top? Eye of Providence?

The five-pointed crown is also usually a symbol of "Christ the King".

And 23 - 11 at the bottom. Could refer to chapter:verse from any number of Biblical books (Matthew 23:11, "The greatest among you will be your servant"...

There's so many individual parts to it, but I'm kinda curious to know what the overall image is meant to be saying. Has the artist ever elaborated?
