    Default homework question

I have to explain a quote in a book, for an essay. You obviously have to give the title and author, but I'm wondering how to do the first sentence. "In the book, she gives this quote" doesn't sound very good. How can I introduce the book and give the quote without it sounding forced?

Can you site it with a parenthetical citation? Like this: (Author, Book)?

If not then you are kinda SOL IMO. God that looks horrible.

"In the book I Don't Give a Flying Fuck, Georgia Bradley gives an example of (insert your description here) shown by (characters name) statement: (BAM! Quotation!)"
"There are no fools more bothersome than those with wit"

'authors name' states, argues, questions. "the book begins with 'authors name' questioning the integrity of the American people, an example of this is (quote)."
I wrote a four word letter.

If you don't know how to start an essay like this, is english really the subject for you?

It depends what you think of the quote. If you think it's great or particularly meaningful you could say someting like "This quote exemplifies the spirt of the time (and if you want to sound fancy, Zeitgeist, unless you're German, then your teacher will think you are lazy), then just source it. Sourcing or references has many many different methods or styles, I prefer sourcing Turabian style, cause that's what I've always done.
